Personal Experience: I don't need a website
I went to Pandan Indah yesterday for a lunch with my friend and was introduced to a new friend. While having our lunch we were talking about the importance of having a business website. And I feel kind of weird when this guy said “I don’t need a website”.
So, we kept talking about having a website and its potential but this guy don’t seem to agree to what we were discussing.
Here the excuses this guy gave:
- Is a waste of money. I don’t know how to use it.
- It is very expensive. Why I want to pay few thousands and it won’t bring anything to my business?
- People know me maa… so I don’t need la.
- Our market local only so we don’t need a website.
I just smile and found it’s kind of hard to advice this kind of typical business owners. Anyway, to the rest of you out there here some tips you might want to read and understand the importance of having a website.
To be honest, I found it hard to believe that there are some business people in Malaysia not seeing the importance of having a website and Internet. For me it doesn’t sounds like a solid reason, it just an excuses that trying to protect their claims by not admitting they have no idea what is the benefits of having a website. This is normal. I met tons of people scared and too shy to admit they don’t know anything. For them their pride is the priority not the business.
Anyway, lets continue…
If you search through the Web, you will find tons of articles on “why a business should have a website”. I personally believe that a good business owner will invest wisely for the best return.
You see… having a website is not to show off or to look cool but actually is to create a business opportunity. I noticed a typical business owner will always say this “I just want a simple website” which I found is very subjective.
Tell me this… How can you define a simple site but the demands you’re making is like a thousands of dollars website that’s unique, with tons of features (I want this and I want that) and looks professional?
Now, ask yourself this… Do you think your business will grow by having poor designs and poor look and feel? Do you think you can build a trust with visitors by having an ugly looking website?
Definitely not right?
So, let me share you some tips that can answer your doubts:
- Do you want to improve your business coverage? Do you need new customers or email from people who want to know about your products and the services you offer?
- Do you think it’s a waste of money and time if you can maximize the profits and business opportunity you can create? As I personally know I wish I can improve my business so that I can earn more.
- Can you define “Very Expensive”? What is a new customer worth to you? How many customers would it take to pay for the investment of your website?
- Are you sure your customers won’t buy from your competitors in other countries? Proof it!
- You may think everyone knows you, are you sure? I’m sure only your previous customers know who you are and your business. How about NOW? It’s means that what you did previously same as what you do today? No improvement in your business. You just hoping business will come by itself.
- Do you think other countries buyer’s knows about you? Don’t you want to create and expand your business market coverage world-wide?
- How do your new customers get to know your company, your products or services if you don’t have a website? By explaining to them every time someone ask you? Or do you think by having a website it can reduce time wasting when explaining?
- Do you think web is more faster than Yellow Pages in the terms of finding your business? Or do you know that people can find you directly by using keywords phrase in search engines?
Now, if you change your mind to have a website, make sure that the designer has the right skills and knowledge to make your website as effective as possible. A good website designer will advice what’s the best for your business. Your website should not only look great but it should also User-Friendly and Visible in search engines.
Cheers!
